【The state of North Dakota】

France,Spain,and England had won the territory there after the 17th century. They were in a jumble there then.

It was 1861 when those areas belong to America. It includes not only North Dakota,but South Dakota,Wyoming,and Montana. When joined the U.S.A.the area of Dakota was divided into the south and north,and both of them joined the United States as the fortieth,and forty first.

The Dakota means a friend in the language of Native Indian. Both of the South and North Dakota stuck to the traditional word so much that they wanted to be friendly each other even if the land was divided into two,so it is said they added south or north to the state,and showed its difference.

There is a close resemblance between the North Dakota and the South Dakota on the climate and the character of the people. John F. Kennedy mistook the North for the South when he made a campaign speech.
