A neutron which has just generated from an atomic fission has plenty of energy.It's kinetic energy 運動エネルギー.😃

The neutrons' mass are all the same,whether amount of energy is big or small appears as its speed.In a word,the neutron which has just given off is at the speed of no less than 20 thousand kilometers per second.It's one tenth of the speed of the light.It's so speedy that we call it a fast neutron.☝

On the other hand,as time passes,the neutron collide with other things often,so the neutron loses its energy.It slows down to 2.2 Kilometers per second,but it's still about 30 times as fast as a Shinkansen.We call the neutron 熱中性子.😚

Let's suppose a neutron burst in lump of uranium which is aggregate 集合体 of atom of the uranium.If it's the fast neutron,it'll race across the lump without looking to either side.💨
